In the scorching heat of summer, one Siouxland non-profit organization is on a mission to keep the community cool and safe. By bridging the gap between qualifying households and the Lifeline Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), they are making a significant impact. Let’s delve into how the Community Action Agency of Siouxland is bringing a breath of fresh air to those who need it the most.
The Community Action Agency of Siouxland has taken the initiative to provide relief during the sweltering summer months. Their inventory offer a variety of fans suitable for LIHEAP and WeCare recipients. This year alone, they have distributed an impressive 95 window air conditioning units, offering respite to households struggling to beat the heat.
How to qualify for the free AC units offered by the LIHEAP program in Siouxland
“An air conditioner in weather like this can make the difference in life or death, literally. That’s why Congress funds this program. So we don’t want anybody that might be eligible for a window air conditioner to suffer,” Executive Director of the Community Action Agency of Siouxland, Jean Logan, expressed. If you received assistance through LIHEAP during the previous winter, you now have the opportunity to schedule an appointment to determine your eligibility for the summer program, which provides support for air conditioning units or fans.
To qualify for this program, you should meet the standard eligibility criteria for LIHEAP or WeCare. Additionally, the household should have a member who has a medical condition that can be exacerbated by high temperatures (self-declared).
This program is designed for renters and homeowners who do not already have a central AC system in their homes. Renters will need to obtain written permission from their landlords to participate. You and your family could qualify for the free AC unit just once.
